History: The Activities & Attractions Association of Hawaii, Inc. (A3H) is the result of a 2002 merger between the Activity Owners Association of Hawaii (AOA) and the Hawaii Attractions Association (HAA). AOA was founded in 1990 by a small but very dedicated group of Maui activity providers. Their diligent efforts to unite the activities & attractions industry resulted in a solid statewide association currently considered the voice and legislative watchdog for the activities & attractions industry. HAA was founded in 1993 by an elite group of quality Oahu attractions, named initially the Oahu Attractions Association. A synergy emerged from the combined marketing and lobbying efforts of the organizations.

The Activities & Attractions Association of Hawaii represents all of Hawaii’s fun things to do statewide. We work closely with each island’s Visitors Bureau, County Government, and HTA’s Destination Management Action Plan director, who actively promotes sustainable regenerative tourism through state and county agencies. We also work with the Hawaii Hotel & Lodging Association and the Chamber of Commerce. From the beginning, the organization has focused on achieving specific goals relating to consumer protection issues and developing standards of excellence in the activities industry. Additionally, it has successfully developed various collective marketing and benefit programs for its members while lobbying for the industry’s interests and incorporating Hawaiian culture whenever the opportunity presents itself, when not, and exploring ways to do so.
